Electrical substation located near a commercial area
An existing electrical substation is situated next to a park and a commercial zone in Ontario, Canada. The distance between the facility fence and the nearest commercial building is approximately 30 feet (10 meters). Measurements taken at the site revealed the presence of an underground cable route that cannot be detected without magnetic field measurement equipment. It is important to note that such facilities have the potential for significantly higher exposure levels than other areas, as in other locations at similar distances values have been recorded that exceed limits set by countries that enforce strict regulations for commercial buildings. This variation depends on the load drawn from the lines, which changes according to demand.
Magnetic Field Levels Measured at Various Distances from the Line Center (End of November)
On the sidewalk, approximately 11 m from the facility’s fence, magnetic field levels of 5.6–6 milligauss were measured.
Above the underground cable route, 18 milligauss were measured at a height of 1 m, and 22 milligauss were measured at a height of 0.3 m.
