Overhead Transmission Line Near a Public Facility (Church)

An existing overhead transmission line (120–315 kV) runs close to a church located in a residential neighborhood in Ontario, Canada. The high-voltage line is approximately 180 feet (55 meters) from the building. Winter measurements showed moderate values; however, in other locations at similar distances, readings have exceeded regulatory limits in countries with stricter standards for public buildings.

Magnetic Field Levels Measured at Various Distances from the Line Center (End of November)

At a distance of 0 mbeneath the centerline of the transmission line, a magnetic field level of 19 milligauss was measured.
At 10 m, the measured field was 16 milligauss.
At 20 m, the measured field was 13 milligauss.
At 30 m, the measured field was 10 milligauss.
At 40 m the measured field was 6.1 milligauss.
At 50 m, the measured field was 4.6 milligauss.
At 55 m, the measured field was 4 milligauss.
At 65 m, the measured field was 3 milligauss.
