A power station near 161 kV high-voltage lines
This refers to a control building and a security building of a power station located near a 161 kV high-voltage line.
In accordance with the Radiation Law, as a condition for the building permit, the power station was required to obtain an installation permit from the Ministry of Environmental Protection. As part of the consultancy process, a radiation survey was prepared for the station’s internal infrastructure, and in addition, a radiation assessment was conducted to evaluate the impact of nearby 161 kV high-voltage lines located close to both the station’s control building and the security building.
As noted, these two areas are continuously occupied, meaning that people are present there on a regular and ongoing basis, unlike the rest of the station, which is a non-occupied zone and therefore subject to no restrictions. Consequently, it was necessary to ensure that radiation levels in these areas meet the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s guidelines for continuous occupancy, according to the nature of the location.
Following a feasibility study for the installation of an active shielding system and approval of the design by the Ministry’s Radiation Supervisor, a detailed execution plan was prepared. A condition for receiving the installation permit was presenting the full execution plan of the active system.
The station received the installation permit along with a requirement to install the system. As construction progressed, the full installation of the active shielding system was completed and subsequently tested near the station’s commissioning date during 2023. The system is currently operational. The station received its operational permit from the Ministry of Environmental Protection in 2024.
